Sclerotherapy Vein Treatment
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure for the treatment of unwanted leg veins. Using a very fine needle, the physician injects an irritant solution “sclerosing agent” into the veins causing them to contract and eventually disappear. Over time, the treated vessel scars, then disappears. Shrinking the veins with sclerotherapy is an effective way to eliminate spider veins and small varicose veins.
What to Expect During Sclerotherapy Procedure
During the procedure, Dr. Lee will insert a tiny needle into each problematic vein and inject a liquid or foam Sclerosant solution. As the solution is being injected, you may experience a slight pinch and then a feeling of burning or tingling that is short lived. Following the injection, the area will be massaged to prevent blood from re-entering the vein. Some Sclerotherapy treatments require the patient to wear a compression stocking until the area is completely healed from the procedure. It is not uncommon to experience some tenderness or bruising at the site of the injection but not much else.
