Sclerotherapy Vein Treatment

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat small varicose and spider veins. An irritant solution is injected directly into the vein, causing the lining of the blood vessel to stick together. Over time, the treated vessel scars, then disappears. Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure involving a few injections of liquid or foam solution called a Sclerosant. It is injected directly into the veins cutting off the flow of blood causing it to swell, stick together and then eventually close. Shrinking the veins with sclerotherapy is an effective way to eliminate painful and harmful varicose veins. Sclerotherapy can be used on both varicose and spider veins. What to Expect During Sclerotherapy Procedure

Dr. Doohi Lee will use an ultrasound to assess and locate all your malfunctioning veins. He will then numb the area to be treated. During the procedure, he will insert a tiny needle into each problematic vein and inject a liquid or foam Sclerosant solution. During the procedure, you may experience a slight pinch and then a feeling of burning or tingling that is short lived. Following the injection, the area will be massaged to prevent blood from re-entering the vein. Some Sclerotherapy treatments require the patient to wear a compression stocking until the area is completely healed from the procedure. It is not uncommon to experience some tenderness or bruising at the site of the injection but not much else.

Possible Sclerotherapy ComplicationsSpider and Vein Treatments

  • Bruising and Redness
