PRP Injection Information

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a rapidly advancing field focused on rebuilding and regenerating damaged and diseased tissues throughout the body.

PRP is a key regenerative therapy that harnesses the natural healing ability of platelets. Platelets are normal components of your blood that contain proteins called growth factors.

When you’re injured or tissues are damaged due to disease, platelets migrate to the area, where they stimulate new cell growth and accelerate the healing process.

What is PRP?

PRP is plasma that has a higher concentration of platelets than normal blood. Dr. Lee produces PRP in the office by drawing your own blood, then processing it in a centrifuge.

The centrifuge separates the platelets from other components such as white and red blood cells. The end product is plasma that’s packed with platelets, called PRP, that’s injected into your problem area.

When concentrated platelets are directly injected into targeted areas, they:

  • Reduce inflammation and pain
  • Recruit stem cells to the area to grow tissues
  • Increase stem cell effectiveness
  • Trigger the production of collagen, muscles, and connective tissues
  • Trigger the production of new blood vessels

PRP injections can also help prevent ongoing damage to healthy tissues surrounding the injured area.

What conditions are treated with PRP?

Dr. Lee uses PRP to restore your skin and treat sports injuries:

Cosmetic rejuvenation

As PRP boosts blood flow and stimulates collagen production and tissue regeneration, your skin becomes tighter and fine lines and wrinkles are diminished. Old skin that’s shed at the surface is replaced with fresh skin that’s stronger, healthier, and younger looking.

Sports injuries

PRP is extensively used to treat sports injuries because it effectively regenerates muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.

PRP injections also reduce pain and inflammation, whether they’re caused by an acute injury, overuse damage, or inflammatory conditions such as bursitis and tendonitis.

Dr. Lee uses PRP to promote healing in many types of sports injuries, such as:

  • Rotator cuff tears
  • ACL injuries
  • Meniscal injuries
  • Ligament tears
  • Achilles tendon injuries

Because of its ability to restore musculoskeletal tissues, PRP is also used to treat joint degeneration caused by osteoarthritis.
