Endovenous Laser Ablation(EVLA) Treatment
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) is a procedure that uses a laser beam light to eliminate or reduce varicose veins. The surgery closes and shrinks the vein and causes scar tissue within the vessel. This seals off the malfunctioning vein causing the blood to correctly flow through healthy veins instead.
What to Expect During Endovenous Laser Ablation?
The area to be treated will be completely numbed for your comfort and then a small incision is made in the vein and a catheter is inserted. A laser fiber optic is then inserted into the catheter. Next the catheter is slowly pulled out allowing the laser to close the vein. The procedure is painless and usually leaves no visible scars. Dr. Doohi Lee will use a combination of ultrasound and laser during the procedure. An ultrasound is used to guide and pinpoint the exact location for the laser ablation. The entire procedure is done in the Advanced Surgical Art’s surgical suite and will most likely will take less than an hour. It is an outpatient procedure that does not require hospitalization. There is no down time and most patients return to work the next day.
